Need a Bike Rack? Here's how to get one installed near your favorite business to make shopping easy
Need a Bike Rack?

The City of Bellingham installs bike racks in the right-of-way for free in front of most businesses that ask!
All it requires is an email to the right folks. We're here to help. Whether you represent a business or you patronize one that doesn't have a rack, follow the steps below to see what can be done. In most cases, a rack can be installed on the sidewalk if the sidewalk is wide enough and there is access between parking meters, light posts, etc. The City will not install racks on private property, private parking lots or private courtyards.
Business Owner?
- Send us an email with your business name, address and a photo of your sidewalk/streetfront
- We will email public works with the request and cc you
- You will reply-all to confirm you would like a bike rack installed at your business
- Public Works will evaluate the location to see whether a bike rack can be installed, and if so come mark out a spot and install the rack
- We will follow up to make sure it is done, and nudge the city if it falls off their radar
Customer Who Needs a Place to Lock up?
- Send us an email with the name, address and a streetfront photo of the business you wish to park near
- We will email the business owner and public works with the request
- The business owner or a representative must confirm they would like the rack installed
- We will follow up to make sure it is done, and nudge the city if it falls off their radar
